XFL Week 4: Preview and Picks

Houston Roughnecks (3-0) vs. Orlando Guardians (0-3)

Houston and Orlando are polar opposites. The Roughnecks have the number one scoring offense while the Guardians rank last in scoring. Houston’s number one scoring defense is met with Orlando’s last place ranking. The only X-factor in this game is that it will be the first road game for Houston, so it will be interesting to see how the Roughnecks and Wade Phillips prepare for that. Otherwise, look for Houston to control this game.

The Pick: Roughnecks 25, Guardians 14

San Antonio Brahmas (1-2) vs. Seattle Dragons (1-2)

Both San Antonio and Seattle need this game to avoid a tough 1-3 start to the season, but Seattle needs it a bit more. With three games remaining against the top three teams in the league (Houston, St. Louis, and DC) Seattle cannot afford to lose this game. Only the top two teams in each division make the playoffs and the Sea Dragons sit below both DC and St. Louis currently. A sense of urgency, and a home game is what will give Seattle the victory today.

The Pick: Sea Dragons 22, Brahmas 21

Arlington Renegades (2-1) vs. St. Louis Battlehawks (2-1)

Arlington really picked a bad time to have to play St. Louis. The Battlehawks, fresh off of a frustrating 34-28 defeat in DC will be welcomed by over 30,000 fans today at The Dome. Last weekend, the Renegades played in front of a crowd of 12,006. This is a huge advantage for the Battlehawks. St. Louis wins today.

The Pick: Battlehawks 22, Arlington 19

Vegas Vipers (0-3) vs. DC Defenders (3-0)

DC and Vegas met just two weeks ago in a rain-soaked game at Cashman Field. It will be interesting today to see the adjustments that both teams make for this game. Vegas should get a much sharper game from Quarterback Brett Hundley, who continues to improve with each game. The running game and defense continue to propel the Defenders forward. DC faces a Vegas secondary that surrendered the most passing yards of the season for any team, giving up 377 yards to DiNucci and the Sea Dragons. If DC can continue to fine tune the passing game, the Defenders will be tough for anyone to beat. DC gets the win today.

The Pick: Defenders 26, Vipers 17
